Patty was having the time of his life. He could finally enjoy the school grounds the way it was meant to be enjoyed: in a rolling chair. It was the very first time he noticed that the floors were actually gilded with beautiful marble flooring and that the windows all over the hallway had a direct look at the majestic Mount Crest in the distance. He always wondered why students always loitered around in the hallways doing nothing and just chatting around with their friends; it turned out it’s because the beautiful scenery gave a ‘picnic’ type vibe whenever they looked out the window.

It was like he was touring a human zoo. He could see students buried in their desks and furiously writing on their notebooks as if their lives depended on it. The teacher’s mouth never stopped yapping about some lecture that the students absorbed like a sponge. But unlike the variety of animals at the zoo, here, he could only see one type of animal: Eager Beavers.

He laughed to himself because he found it funny that they were studying so hard. Couldn’t they enjoy life like he was doing?

This was also the first time he noticed that the school looked bigger than he thought it was. They must have passed by 5 large classrooms that could house 10 cars each. Why was it that their class only had a small room compared to the other sections?

Whatever, Patty thought. It wasn’t important. He just needed to enjoy the view and feel the cool breeze of the wind as they strolled through the hallways. He could get used to having a butler push him around like this.

“Ahhh, this is the life!”

Grammo was having the worst panic attack of his life. The closer they came to the music competition, the more his anxiety shot up. He kept thinking about how most of his competitors were personally trained by professional singers while he only taught himself how to sing, not to mention the fact that he was deaf tone.

All of this happened so quickly that he didn’t have anything prepared for the competition at all! He didn’t know what to sing, he didn’t know how to sing it, he didn’t even know the criteria for judging! How was he supposed to win the competition and get the Voice Box Teqx?! And if he failed, then there was no way that he would be able to impress the whole classroom at the end of the week. He’ll have to say goodbye to his school life just one year before he graduated. How tragic would that be?

The fact that he was lugging around a traditional wooden guitar behind him didn’t help. It was the first time he regretted having a heavy condensed material for his guitar.

And while he was having trouble with all of this, Patty was humming like a little bird chirping happily on a tree. He seemed to be enjoying all of this despite the stakes of expulsion hanging above their heads.

As Grammo pushed Patty through the campus, they passed by a lot of students and faculty that gave them a weird look. The track and field athletes paused their training session as they saw one guy pushing another guy who was sitting on a faculty rolling chair, and some students even walked out of their way thinking that Patty was someone disabled. Grammo wanted to erase his face. The only thing he could do was put his head down, but Patty was still enjoying himself like he was on vacation.

What made him so happy?

Well the answer to that lay directly on Patty’s eyes. The very reason why he decided to help Grammo from certain expulsion was because of a certain reward that the system dangled in front of his face. And since he successfully fulfilled his mission, he can now harvest the fruit of his hard labor.

Like an addict who had just been given another piece, Patty immediately pressed that summon button like a giddy child. He wanted to repeat that sweet sensation of getting a high class summon again. The effects of the A-class Muscava minion was too good that it ignited his passion to get more minions that gave similar or better powers like that of slowing down time.

Even though the chances of getting another A-class minion was low, especially since he was only summoning one minion, Patty still went through with it. Of course, he wasn’t thinking about anything else. He wanted a high-class minion, so he took a bet and summoned one again.

Patty fell into the trap that most gamblers fall into. It was the ‘I’m special’ effect. It was the incomprehensible and impossible belief that he would be the one in a million to win a jackpot.

Just one more, I can feel the next one’s gonna be it!

I haven’t won in a while, so I’m sure I’ll win the next one.

It’s that kind of thinking that kept the casinos wealthy and thriving throughout the entire history of humankind. Patty could simply wait until he had eight more summoning scrolls so that he would have an extra summon for free and it would increase his chances of getting a higher class minion. After all, an A-class minion could be partially summoned into the real world, and they usually had better abilities to give him.

But Patty thought to himself: when would that happen? When will he obtain an extra eight summon scrolls? Tomorrow? The next day after that? Next week? In a month?

Patty had no time for that!

It’s not like the system was a generous giver of summon scrolls that would give it away for nothing. No, the system was far too smart for that. Judging from previous missions that he received, the system would only reserve a summon scroll as a reward when it absolutely wanted Patty to complete it. It knew that Patty would not accept the mission if the reward was only some Yi Power. And as he recalled, the system heavily favored missions that would actively make Patty less lazy, so Patty didn’t even know if he would complete it or not.

Waiting and maximizing his chances was too troublesome for Patty to think about. He was not the kind of guy to wait for the perfect opportunity and worry himself for the future. He was the kind of guy who answers only to his instincts. If he wanted to stay at home but there’s an exam in school, then he would stay at home. If he wanted to summon a minion right now but if he waited a few more weeks and he would get more chances, then he wouldn’t wait.

Patty pushed the summon button again and the starry night sky in the screen balled up into one big white light. It only took another second until it exploded into millions of meteorites that rained down back into the sky.

Only one star shot straight up and hit Patty directly in the forehead. Strangely enough, the color of this star was not something he had ever seen before. Usually, it would either be red, yellow, blue, or a combination from any of the two like green and violet. But this one had a strange color.

This falling star was a dark brown color!

That was something he didn’t expect to see. Could it be that he was actually special? Was he the one in a million? Did he hit the jackpot? Unfortunately, it didn’t seem likely as the star wasn’t that large or shining compared to the rest of them.

As usual, an 8-bit image depicted a representation of the minion in front of him. It was quite an adorable animal with the shape of an almond and a shiny exterior that looked like most legume seeds commonly seen around the world. It was quite large, almost exceeding that of a watermelon or a pumpkin. But what made it look like an innocent creature was its tiny little eyes that looked like simple black beads that were glued on the skin. It didn’t have arms, but it did have these trunk-like legs that had roots as its toes.

[Select a minion for a job]

B-class Flag Bearer (Y/N)

Of course, Patty picked yes. And as soon as he did, the almond-like minion disappeared from his view and teleported back into the top of the familiar snowy mountain. The Tendora minion was still doing push ups and crunches underneath the willow tree without any breaks. It was still loyally completing its missions without any complaints. He nodded to the Tendora and inwardly thanked him for the daily income of 20 Yi per day that he receives.

The Flag Bearer looked around its surroundings and took a second before it started to sway left and right as it tried to walk with its thick stumps of legs. It was absolutely adorable. It ignored the Tendora and walked down the icy mountain, certain of its direction and where it wanted to go. It didn’t waste any time and did its job.

Although it was amusing to see this creature try to maintain its balance on the slippery snow, he didn’t want to waste time on it. He still didn’t know exactly what kind of benefit or power this would give him. And since he could not summon it in the real world, then wouldn’t the benefits of building a kingdom be useless?

Did he just get scammed by the system?

—----------------

After a long while in the virtual world, the Flag Bearer finally stopped its journey and planted itself deep into frozen soil. This place was halfway from the top of the mountain to the bottom. In this area, there was still a lot of vegetation around and even some animals active underground. For some reason, the minion decided that this place would be a perfect place to establish its territory.

And as it dug itself deep down, a bright white light shined through the soil and beamed up towards the sky. It pierced through the clouds and established its presence in the calm skies of the virtual world.

The first one to notice this was a yellow-skinned Thall who was at the bottom of the snowy mountain. He had barely started his journey up, and this supernatural burst of light only hardened his resolve. It was the gods showing their approval for his bravery in trying to summit the might Icy Rock.

“My journey has just begun,” Achram said as he looked at the pillar of light towering the skies. He decided to change his route and visit the location of this extraordinary miracle of the gods.
