Chapter 7: Love Academy

Ke Li rolled his eyes back and passed out.

Although still concerned about the ghost in front of him, Zhou Zhou immediately supported Ke Li and gently laid the unconscious person down on the ground.

Xue Li cowered behind Zhou Zhou, tightly clutching his clothes from behind, moving with him as he bent down and stood back up, and continuously screaming during this time.

“Ahhhhhhh!”

“I died so miserably~”

The high-pitched female voice and resentful ghostly voice intertwined, continuously spreading through the eerie forest.

Even the players hiding in the dormitory building to avoid monsters heard it. In the silent and dark environment, the sudden appearance of such a horrifying and strange sound made most people shudder.

“What happened?”

“Damn, that scared me.”

“What kind of monster is this?”

“Scary monster.”

The ghost descending from the sky tried to float away through the intertwined branches, but after floating for a while, it was still in the same place.

It slowly looked down, jiojio at the bottom was caught by a pale white hand.

Ghost: “……”

The next second, it was swiftly pulled down. Zhou Zhou grabbed this white ghost and observed it for a while, realizing it wasn’t the same one as before.

The one from the library looked a bit rougher, while this one was a little thinner and looked a bit younger.

However, the feel and elasticity were exactly the same.

Xue Li kept her eyes closed and continued screaming incessantly, finally releasing all the fear she had accumulated since entering the game when she saw the white unknown object.

She didn’t dare open her eyes and could only vent her fear through this method.

“Xue Li, Xue Li.” A gentle and soft voice called her name.

“It’s okay, don’t be afraid.”

Only after Zhou Zhou’s continuous comforting did she dare to open her eyes and stop screaming.

As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Zhou Zhou’s concerned expression and burst into tears, “Wuuu~ what was that thing just now? So scary.”

And at this time, the ghost Zhou Zhou was holding had another chance to speak, as if to accompany her wuu-ing cries.

“I died so miserably wuuu~”

Not far away in the dormitory building, the players were startled again.

“What’s going on again? What is that thing?”

“Who died? Why are they crying so miserably?”

“But wait, how can they cry if they’re dead?”

Xue Li, wiping her tears, almost screamed again when she heard the ghost’s voice.

“It’s okay, look, not scary at all.”

Zhou Zhou shone his flashlight on the ghost his other hand was holding. The semi-transparent ghost glowed faintly all over after being illuminated, its pale human shape making it even more terrifying.

Xue Li immediately retreated in panic.

“Look, he can do this, this.”

Seeing that Xue Li was still very scared, Zhou Zhou handed her the flashlight, then stretched and squeezed the ghost with his fingers in a very nimble and practiced manner.

The ghost that couldn’t escape was squeezed into various shapes, completely devoid of any ghostly dignity.

Xue Li couldn’t cry anymore.

Fear comes from the fear of the unknown, but now seeing the ghost being so helplessly bullied and unable to resist, and Zhou Zhou playing with such enthusiasm, made her wonder which one was more terrifying.

Xue Li: …I don’t know which one is more terrifying now.

“Do you want to try too?” Seeing that Xue Li was no longer afraid, Zhou Zhou generously shared his “toy.”

Xue Li shook her head vigorously, “No no no, it’s okay.”

Ke Li felt his face burning. He groggily opened his eyes, and two familiar faces came into view.

“It’s Xue Li and Zhou Zhou, what’s going on? What happened to me?”

He sat up from the ground, the flashlight shining directly on his face was a bit uncomfortable, so he rubbed his eyes and then looked at the two crouching next to him.

Xue Li had a strange expression, “Don’t you remember what happened just now? Let me remind you, you just shouted ‘mommy’ and then passed out.”

After recalling for a while sitting on the ground, Ke Li finally remembered what had happened.

He covered his face in embarrassment and defended himself, “It was just an accident earlier. I just saw that thing, you saw it too, right? Suddenly descending from the sky, something like a person, and then I just, got a little, only a little bit scared.”

“You mean this thing?” Xue Li pointed to the side.

The incoherent Ke Li followed her finger’s direction and looked over. Behind Zhou Zhou, a white human-like figure was floating slowly away from them, except jio at the bottom was caught and couldn’t float away.

“Mommy!”

Ke Li rolled his eyes back and fainted again, lying down on the ground.

“Is Ke Li okay?” Zhou Zhou asked with concern.

He firmly grasped the ghost in his palm, like a child who had finally begged his parents to buy a favorite hydrogen balloon, cherishing it and refusing to let go, afraid that if he loosened his grip, the balloon would float away, never to be found again.

“He’s fine, leave it to me,” said Xue Li, completely different from her previously terrified screaming self.

After all, having learned the true nature of the ghost and witnessing what Zhou Zhou did to it, she could no longer be scared.

She rolled up her sleeves and slapped Ke Li’s face left and right, the sound of the slaps crisp and clear.

Zhou Zhou didn’t understand: “Why are you hitting him again?”

“Of course it’s to wake him up.”

After saying that, Xue Li sighed and said to Zhou Zhou: “Zhou Zhou, did you know? This is the first time since we were 12 years old that I’ve won a fight against him.”

This…isn’t really a fight, is it?

Unable to correct Xue Li’s wording, Zhou Zhou noticed Ke Li’s eyelids moving, so the simple and crude method seemed to be effective.

It’s just that Xue Li still seemed a bit regretful.

Ten minutes later, Ke Li walked behind the two with a sullen face.

He glanced at the ghost Zhou Zhou was holding in front of him, illuminated by the light, then at Xue Li walking beside Zhou Zhou, and then angrily touched his burning hot cheeks.

“Hmph!”

“I died so miserably~”

“Hmph!!”

“I died so miserably~”

“Hmph!!!”

“Enough. He calls out, you follow suit. Are you practicing a chorus here?” Xue Li couldn’t help but say.

Xue Li didn’t know that not long ago, she was making the same sound effects, even scaring quite a few players.

Ke Li glanced at her, not wanting to talk to her, and turned his head towards Zhou Zhou and the ghost he was holding.

He stared at it for a while, feeling like he had seen this ghost somewhere before, a strange sense of familiarity.

But where had he seen it?

“Oh right, that’s who it is!” Ke Li finally remembered.

Xue Li: “What’s with your shocked reaction?”

Ke Li ignored being angry at his sister and pointed at the ghost, asking: “Doesn’t he look like that player we encountered when we first entered the game?”

“Which player?” It was too dark in the dormitory building when they first entered, so no one could see clearly.

“Don’t you remember? The flashlight is his, the one who was eaten by the monster right in front of us.”

Hearing this, Xue Li did indeed recall now. When their group first entered the game, it was too dark for them to see clearly who was walking in front, behind, left or right of them.

The only one she had an impression of was the player holding the flashlight, because he had a light source, and happened to be walking at the very front, with Ke Li and Xue Li right behind him.

Xue Li looked up carefully to identify him. Although the lighting wasn’t good now, and he had turned completely white, it was indeed that player.

“What’s going on? Wasn’t he eaten by the monster? What is this now?”

Zhou Zhou didn’t recognize any player, but seeing the two of them looking at the ghost in his hand, he pulled the ghost to the same height as everyone else so they could examine it closely.

“No no no, it’s still quite scary up close,” Ke Li said, waving his hand and taking a step back.

It was confirmed that this ghost was indeed a player, but from his appearance to his form, he had deviated from a normal human, having no consciousness or threat, only able to say one line.

He was more like an NPC created by the system.

“I have an idea,” Xue Li said solemnly.

“Could it be that everyone who dies in the game turns into this?”

Zhou Zhou’s eyes lit up.

Ke Li: “It’s very possible, but why do players turn into this after dying? Shouldn’t they not be able to continue the game after death?”

Xue Li said gloomily: “Could it be just to scare people?”

Ke Li: …Couldn’t argue with that, he was indeed scared.

Zhou Zhou shook the ghost in his hand and asked a question he cared most about, “So can I keep carrying it with me?”

“It probably won’t have any impact.”

Ke Li felt this was likely a simulation created by the system based on dead players, just like NPCs. Apart from their appearance, they had no connection to the original person.

But looking at the ghost’s desperate attempts to escape and its line that sounded full of resentment, it still felt very strange.

Xue Li had been standing there silently. After a long hesitation, she said: “What if we die in the game, we won’t turn into this too, will we?”

Imagining herself dying in the game, not only unable to earn points, but also having to float around the instance crying about how miserable her death was.

And apart from scaring people, having no offensive capabilities, she might even be led around like a balloon or squeezed and deformed.

“This is really killing someone and stepping on their heart,” Xue Li sighed.

Ke Li agreed, “Indeed, it’s killing someone and stepping on their heart.”

Only Zhou Zhou couldn’t empathize, since he wasn’t a player. “If we encounter more, can I take a few more?”

Ke Li: ……

Xue Li: ……

Why did it sound like Zhou Zhou was treating them as free balloons to take as many as he wanted?

Xue Li could see that Zhou Zhou really liked this, and couldn’t help but say while massaging her forehead, “Fine, take as many as you want if we encounter them, but there probably won’t be that many deaths…”

Before she could finish speaking, a familiar sound echoed faintly around them.

“I died so miserably~ So miserably~ Miserably~”

Voices of different tones layered on top of each other came from all directions, echoing the same line in a chilling intonation.

And the voices were getting closer and closer, as if many ghosts were surrounding and converging on their location!
