Man, the confident wave was so cool. But you must be wondering...do I always carry laced cookies? Yes. My dream is to kill the demon lord, and the first step is to find any possible allergies that the demon lord has, imagine them having a peanut allergy or something, it would be humiliating to die by a peanut butter cookie.
I also have a lot of other laced things that I brought along, but I stored them in my storage spell so that I could bring several of them at once. With the money we recently got, I used it to rent a portion of the bakery for personal use, some for regular cookies, and the rest for laced ones.
The higher-ups of this guy's organization will not fall for such tactics, at least not after one of them saw me doing it, and even if they do, they're probably trained to resist it a very long time ago.
Mari easily took down one but only managed to injure the other severely. She has the strength to kill them, but it was harder to capture them, she also has no combat experience, so I didn't mind as we did capture 2 and turned them to the academy. Which...I was immediately granted a full-on scholarship to the actual academy as long as I passed the youth program, doesn't matter where I rank, as long as I pass...so I don't even need a sponsor.
I also have a lot of money on the side, but we'll leave that for later. Mari also got some money, but she handed them to me as she didn't really understand basic finances.
Anyway, I apparently had caught and turned in a member of a notorious criminal syndicate known as "Blood Raven." With their arrest, I had become one of the first to ever successfully apprehend a member of the infamous criminal syndicate. One of the firsts...that's not a lot, but I did earn myself as the youngest to have ever done it as the previous record holder is a current rank 7 genius mage, but they got the record at age 16, 6 years ago.
I may have caught their weakest member, but that's apparently a good thing. It means that they're not fighters and would be responsible for something important within the organization. No one really knows what they do, even the attack just now killed only 6 civilians. So it's hard to determine if there's any motive for this kind of attack.
Do they just want to commit atrocities? Do they want to just commit terrorism? We don't know. There's little the authorities can do when they're all bound by some spells.
So the princess and Matt were obviously enough also praised for what they've accomplished. And as you've noticed, I'm too lazy to call people by their actual names if it's too long. I would call the princess Eve, but I'm scared that her overprotective brothers will use it to their advantage to try and kill me or something.
So Eve, a 10-year-old, with blonde hair, red eyes, and is in a somewhat ripped dress. She was responsible for using some magic to calm people down and lead them to safety, while Matt ran around and tried to rescue abandoned civilians. They also got a scholarship...which, no offense, is fucking useless when they actually have a lot of money.
Because of that though, I was offered a better dorm room for my stay during this youth program. I looked around and it seemed that a lot of people didn't come here alone, they all had one guardian with them, the nobles had 1 or 2 servants each, and the rest brought a relative along.
The dorm has one bedroom, one kitchen, one bathroom, and a table for 2 for dining, a small couch, and a coffee table in our living room. The whole unit was spacious enough to fit more furniture and 2 more people, but we're not complaining. However we now have to sleep in the same bed since both of us refused to sleep on the couch, plus the bed was big enough anyway.
"Where are you going?" Mari asked as she saw me prepare to head back out
"Going to sit at a nearby bench...the princess will approach me and I need to learn what she's like."
"Alright, don't be late...and try not to do too much, because if your stereotyping is going to keep being correct, her brothers may just try to kill you."
"Hah, as if they can...this world has fallen victim ever since the goddess placed me here."
"And I'll take it upon myself to see that you don't become its dictator."
As I sat on the bench, enjoying my sandwich that I got from the cafeteria and the peaceful atmosphere of the park. And sure enough, the peaceful atmosphere, and sure enough, right after I finished my sandwich and went for my drink, the princess herself was here.
"Mind if I join you?" she asked with a polite smile before taking a seat on the other side of the bench after my quiet nod.
"What do you want?"
"What do you mean?"
"You wouldn't be here alone otherwise, so get on with it."
"You're quite smart for a 7-year-old."
"You're only 3 years older than me."
Her type is the otome-like main character, and that means that she's somewhat smart, she'll try to gather all the best fighters that she can get her hands on...after all, she's the support and commander type, while Matt is the dense harem protagonist who gets by with the power of friendship.
"I have a proposition for you," she said, her voice taking on a more serious tone, "I'm in need of a bodyguard in the future, someone I can trust to keep me safe in these uncertain times. And from what I've heard, you seem more than capable of handling yourself now, and your potential is endless."
"Okay, and?"
"I don't expect you to lay down your life for me," she clarified, "I just want someone I can trust to watch my back, to be by my side when I need them most."
"Yeah...thanks, but no thanks...I'm not interested."
"Why not? A princess is recruiting you, I can offer you more than what this empire ever will."
"And...I do not care."
