Chapter 39

Time passed slowly amidst the tense atmosphere in Class 13, and the weekend arrived in a blink of an eye. Early on Sunday morning, Luo Xiao got up and went to Mr. Huo’s house to study as scheduled.

It could be said that after this two-year period of study, he finally moved from theory to practice, which was one of the reasons why Mr. Huo had asked him to come to the City of

Luo Xiao initially thought that today they would conduct experiments inside the house, just like in previous times. However, as soon as he walked inside the house and before he could greet his master, he was dragged away by his old man.

Looking at Ye Lan, who was watching them leave with a disappointed expression, Luo Xiao felt puzzled. “Master, what’s going on? Where are we going?”

Mr. Huo didn’t pause for a moment and said urgently, “I just received a message. We need to hurry to Tongjia Village.”

“Tongjia Village?” Luo Xiao had no idea about this place.

“Old Man Huo, over here!” Another spirited old man with white hair waved his hand as he sat in a Hongqi brand car.

“Ouyang Old Man, what are you doing here?” Mr. Huo opened the  car door door and sat down. “Xiaoxiao, you sit in the front.”

“Alright, Master.” Luo Xiao heard this, nodding as he took the front passenger seat.

“What? Master?” Old Man Ouyang raised an eyebrow. “Old Huo, is this your closed-door disciple?”

Mr. Huo nodded proudly. “Of course, he’s the next successor to our Heavenly Secrets Sect!”

“Oh?” Old Man Ouyang Luo Xiao gave a thoughtful look. It seems like this kid has a lot of potential!

“Xiaoxiao, come on, greet Old Ouyang.” Still feeling smug, Mr. Huo said

Master, who do I feel like you are calling a pet? Luo Xiao suppressed his thoughts without saying a word.

“Hello, Mr. Ouyang.”

“Why call him Mr. Ouyang? Just call me Grandpa.” Mr. Huo rubbed his chin. “Isn’t that right, Ouyang Old Man?”

Old Man Ouyang rolled his eyes without saying another word. He knew that Old Huo, an old fox, wouldn’t pass on this rare opportunity.

He directly reached out his hand and took off a string of sandalwood prayer beads he was wearing on his right hand, then passed it to Luo Xiao.

“Here, kid, this is a meeting gift.”

Luo Xiao’s eyes fell on the obviously valuable, strong Buddhist beads and he hesitated to take them.

However, Mr. Huo didn’t give him a chance to hesitate. He moved and grabbed the string, pulled his right hand, and put it on.

“Haha, Xiaoxiao, this is good stuff. Don’t forget to keep it close to your body all the time, even when bathing!” Mr. Huo was smiling so much that his eyes were almost turned closed.

“Thanks, Ouyang Old Man.” Mr. Huo patted Old Man Ouyang on the shoulder vigorously. “Sure enough, we are good friends!”

“Are you sure we are really good friends?” Old Man Ouyang rolled his eyes again.

“As long as you are not angry with me!”

“Oh, how could it be! We have been friends for over fifty years!”

“Thank you, Grandpa Ouyang,” Luo Xiao said sincerely.

Old Man Ouyang waved his hand. “No problem. You are much more pleasing to the eye than your master. By the way, you are called Xiaoxiao, right? How about becoming my disciple?”

“Hey! You old man, why are you using this trick again?” Mr. Huo paused when he heard this and then exploded. “Believe it or not, we won’t be friends anymore!”

“Ah, you are already so old. Why are you still easy to fool? How funny!” Old Man Ouyang winked at Luo Xiao, then sighed.

Luo Xiao quietly turned his head. These two elders were exchanging feelings. It would be better for him, a junior, not to get involved. Speaking of which, he couldn’t believe that his master still had such a cute and easily irritable side!

“All right, I was just joking earlier.” Old Man Ouyang stretched out his hand and patted Mr. Huo’s hand. “Don’t be angry, Old Man Huo. By the way, do you know the reason I called you here this time?”

As expected, Mr. Huo, who was still a bit upset a moment ago, turned serious when he heard this. “I don’t know the specifics, but I heard there seems to be a murder case.”

“Well, that’s right.” Old Man Ouyang continued slowly. “This time, it was discovered by one of Old Yu’s people by accident. They sensed something abnormal during the process of hunting, so they went to investigate. They didn’t expect that their feelings were correct.”

“Now, this is the building.” After arriving at their destination, Old Man Ouyang pointed to a three-story white small bungalow in front of him and spoke, “In this building lives a family of three. The head of the household is called Mr. Bai. He’s in his thirties. Staying with him is his wife and their ten-year-old daughter. According to the neighbors, the family of three got into a car accident about a month ago, and there don’t seem to be any other relatives or friends in their home. So, this building became vacant. But a few days ago, several people saw the three of them playing on the second-floor  window, and they could hear their voices clearly.”

The old man continued as they walked towards the small bungalow. “This incident has frightened the people around the area, and they try to stay as far away as possible. So they don’t know much more about it.”

“Then, what did you bring us here for?” Mr. Huo thought for a while. “To divine the fate of this family?”

“No,” Old Man Ouyang shook his head, then nodded to a young man in the room and led Mr. Huo and Luo Xiao on the second floor. “I brought you here to show you this.”
