★★ The Story of a Certain Kingdom’s Prince ★★

“Your Highness the Prince, I brought you your meal.”

The courtier came into his room and said those words. Felix Aethernum Kapitis watched the courtier pushing the trolly with cold, sunken eyes.

Dagarak, dagarak.

The sound of dishes being raised on the dining table was heard.

“Felix, should I try it first? Yes?”

Daisy, a fairy covered in white flowers, flew in and hovered over his skin.

“No, since it smells good, it must be something he can eat this time!”

Poppy, covered in bright red flowers, landed on Felix’s shoulder and said so. Even if the fairies were talking next to them, the courtiers didn’t hear them. They just completed their mission and politely bowed their heads before leaving.

“Huu…”

It smelled savory. Even in front of the seemingly appetizing food, Felix trembled in fear.

Kururug.

Felix opened and closed his eyes once at the sound of his stomach’s announcement then took off his butt against the window.

Dreuk.

He sluggishly sat down in his chair.

Normally, it would be right for the courtiers to wait on the side, but since Felix always got bitten, everyone naturally went outside and waited.

His hands trembled from starvation all day. He knows he can no longer refuse food.

With a rough movement, he cut the red hot juicy steak. If they knew he hadn’t eaten properly since yesterday, they wouldn’t have served this kind of food.

He opened his mouth to the chunk of meat he didn’t want to eat to survive. His bright red lips parted slowly, and his black eyelashes trembled with tension.

Kuleok.

He swallowed the piece of steak without chewing it properly. It came up right away. His tongue, which had already lost its function, became severely sore.

Kulog.

Red blood flowed out with a small cough. He naturally wiped his lips with a napkin and grabbed the cloth on the table.

Wajangchang.

All the cutlery on the table fell to the floor at the nervous gesture.

“Haah, haah.”

This time, it must have been a more potent poison than it was a few days ago as blood kept gushing out from that bite. Felix spat blood on a napkin as he ran his dull tongue across his mouth.

“**ck…”

Felix swore as he saw the dark red blood.

“Felix…”

The fairies shed tears as they hovered around him, unable to come close to the energy he radiated.

“Felix! I’ll go Aethernum-nim! I can’t stand it anymore!”

Poppy sighed angrily.

“Poppy…”

“It can’t go on like this! Felix will die!”

Felix pouted his lips as he heard the voice of Daisy, who was staring at him along with the angry Poppy with tears running down her cheeks.

“You know very well that I won’t die from poison.”

He tried to speak calmly, but his voice trembled.

“Still…still, we can’t leave you like this!”

“That’s right! Let’s go to Aethernum-nim! If we go now, we won’t be late!”

Each of the six fairies made a noise as they flew. Only one of them was lying by the window, basking in the sun.

“Eringeum! What are you doing! Aren’t you coming?”

The fairy, wearing pine cone-like flowers and pointed leaves in her blue-purple hair, rolled over with a sad expression and spoke.

“Felix is fine, but why are you guys more upset? Ah, annoying.”

“What did you say? We must protect Felix! Come on, get up!”

Asta, who was wearing light purple petals, flew over and pulled Eringeum’s arm.

As if she was going to die from from being really annoyed, Eringeum slowly got up. She flew up with her small petal-like wings, but her eyes were wide open. Clover crossed her arms with her dainty arms and stared at Eringeum with triangular eyes.

“Erin! We always have a duty to keep Felix safe. Got it?”

Clover, wearing a four leaf clover on her head, kept glaring at Eringeum with her green eyes. Only then did Eringeum, who erased her annoyed expression, pouted her lips and flew off like a prisoner.

“I told you not to call me that. What are you guys doing? Let’s go to Aethernum-nim. You guys really talk a lot, so annoying.”

“Isn’t everyone waiting because of you?”

Kalmia, wearing pink petals, flew to Eringeum’s side. Whether or not the fairies moved somewhere, Felix was stretched out on the couch because of his flipping insides.

“Huu.”

The poisoned food, which he didn’t know how many times already, made him feel down. He felt skeptical about how long he would have to continue doing this boring thing. He’d rather have a body that can die from poison. Either that or have an immortal body that doesn’t take any damage at all.

He was gloomy because the confrontation with his disgusting stepmother seemed to have no end in sight.

“I want to leave the palace at least.”

He wanted to ride a horse freely in a green field and run endlessly. Not the fancy hall or room he sees all the time.

Raising his arm and covering his eyes, Felix used his other hand to erase the things on the floor with magic. It was his last pride. He didn’t want anyone to know that he was being poisoned.

The fairies were accustomed to traversing the inside of the palace and going deeper into it. There was a deep darkness in the basement where only the royal family could enter, but they had no difficulty finding the way as the natural light leaked from the bodies of the fairies. The seven fairies moved in perfect order.

Arriving at the vast underground space, the fairies each raised their voices and called.

“Aethernum-nim!”

“Aethernum-nim! Get up! Don’t fall asleep yet!”

“It can’t go on like this! No matter how much it is for Felix’s sake, if Aethernum-nim falls asleep like this, Felix will suffer even more!”

The guardian of this country, Black Dragon Aethernum, who had been curled up in the middle of the clearing and hardened like a fossil, opened only one eye that had been closed.

“Since you all came here, the child must be alone now.”

“Ah! Why are we all here? One should have stayed!”

Only then did Poppy figure out the problem and jumped up while shouting.

“That’s not the problem, Aethernum-nim! You can’t sleep yet! We don’t have the power to get rid of the poison! Please help us solve the problem!”

Clover said while flying in front of the black dragon’s eyes.

“Even if it’s just one meal, I hope Felix can eat safely. Please help us! If you fall asleep now, we’ll never know when you’ll wake up!”

Their small voices continued to whine, but Aethernum couldn’t help but close his eyes. The body signalling the end was heavy. And his eyelids were getting heavier than that.

The long years of living for his consort’s offspring were too long even for him, a great creature, to endure. When he felt his body signal the end, the child was born. Among the descendants of his partner, he was the child who inherited his blood the most intensely.

Unfortunately, the child lost his mother early and always had unstable magical powers. Being close to him made it even more difficult for a human to handle the large amount of mana, so accidents often broke out. Now that even his father has died, it might be difficult to hold on with his weakened mental strength.

Still, he wanted to protect their descendants until the very end. He sealed himself and prayed for the child to grow up safely.

“Aethernum-nim! Please open your eyes! For Felix, warm and delicious…please help us feed him!”

“Aethernum-nim!”

“Please, I beg you!”

The fairies screamed and shouted with all their might. Hearing those earnest voices, the Black Dragon, who had fallen asleep, managed to gather his strength and activated his magic.

Hwaak.

After the intense black energy spread, a space was created in the air. Coincidentally, Eringeum, who was closest, began to be sucked in against her will.

“Eh? Uhuh!”

Eringeum, who was sighing with her arms folded behind the other fairies because she was annoyed, felt her body being sucked into the dark space right next to her and screamed out loud.

Silently, the space sucked until Eringeum’s waist. The black dragon stretched out and spoke his last words in a weak voice.

“There, if you brought it from there, take it out…”

Unable to speak anymore, Black Dragon Aethernum fell into a deep sleep again. Eringeum vigorously flapped her wings to try to do something with her helplessly dragged body, but it was too much.

“Erin!”

“Why Eringeum? No! Let’s go together!”

Clover, Daisy, Poppy, Kalmia, Asta, and Lupinus each groaned and flapped their little wings as they quickly flew up.

“No!”

Reaching out to them, Eringeum disappeared somewhere beyond. And soon, the door to the void closed.

Clover, who was about to enter, passed the place where the door was. Looking at the disappeared door, the remaining fairies let out a sigh.

“So…why did Erin have to go?”

Clover’s voice, with a deep, hollow tone, crossed the air.

The sound of rough, loud breathing filled the clearing. It was the sound of the Black Dragon’s final sleep. Hoping that when he wakes up, his child will be more grown up.
