Chapter 62

After several attempts, I couldn't get the energy of the lorgs to be absorbed by me. However, I did manage to find a way to replenish my energy, although it’s not very efficient and has a small price, which is minor for me.

Using the training method, I can absorb the energy from the air and replenish my energy, although probably because I'm not meditating, this causes an energy reduction condition and is much slower than if I were meditating.

Luckily, due to my attempts to use techniques of different energies simultaneously, my deviation adaptation was already at 1000%, which is why the wounds healed instantly.

Even so, I decided not to give up and continue trying to absorb the energy of the lorgs, while at the same time using the training methods to replenish some of my energy using the energy from the environment.

Surprisingly, the battle ended before I managed to find a way to absorb the energy of the lorgs. At this point, after six hours of fighting, there was only a handful of lorgs left. Thinking a bit, I realized that I didn't have enough energy, so I decided to kill all the remaining ones except for a buff lorg, which, once it has no lorgs around, is almost harmless, at least to me.

After this, I decided to immobilize the lorg and retreat to a small area. After making sure it couldn’t escape or attack, and ensuring there were no other lorgs nearby, I started using my training methods to completely recover from my energy shortage.

After fully recovering my energy, I took it up again and approached the portal. Because I took a bit of time, new lorgs had already started to appear. However, since there were so few, they didn’t present a major problem, especially since no buff lorgs appeared.

Once this was done, I killed the last buff lorg and prepared to face the alpha lorg, something that, while not easy, was not as difficult as fighting thousands of lorgs constantly being buffed and healed.

The battlefield fell silent. The remains of the lorgs lay at my feet, and my body had some wounds from the battle against the alpha lorg. Although they healed quickly, they left a persistent pain. I had won.

I headed to the respawn point, or rather where the respawn point had been, and opened the chest. The respawn point was destroyed, but I knew I couldn’t continue like this for much longer, especially if a new variant appeared, which was almost certain considering what Emily had said. I needed a new strategy, more techniques, to improve my skills, and above all, rest since even if my body was in perfect condition, fighting for hours tires my mind.

The battle had been brutal, but I had learned a valuable lesson: never underestimate my enemies, even if they seem weak at first, and always be prepared for the unexpected.

Besides, not everything was bad. There were two things I gained: the first was a lot of coins [coins: 6900], this time even a bit more thanks to the buff lorgs giving more coins, as I normally get around 5500 each time I assault a respawn point. The other was gaining one level. With this, I only need one more level to evolve my talent.

After leaving the war zone, I decided to call Emily. At this point, it might become a habit to call her every time I return.

"Hi, Emily, I have questions."

"Hello, sure, go ahead."

Only after she responded did I realize how blunt and rude I was, though she didn’t seem angry about it.

"Sorry for being so blunt," I apologized.

"Huh? Don't worry, in the future, you were always like that with everyone anyway."

That explains why she wasn’t angry and also tells me that at some point, I won’t have to change the way I talk since I usually speak bluntly with my family and friends.

"Well, back to the questions. Today, I encountered a new type of lorg. It was a white humanoid reptile that buffed and healed the lorgs. Do you know what it’s called?"

"That must be the buffer lorg. A real nuisance, I have to say."

"Heh, I guessed right."

"You guessed what?"

"The name. I was testing if my future self gave it that name, and you’re right, it’s a nuisance, especially when assaulting a respawn point, and it buffs thousands of lorgs."

"Congratulations. ... Wait, you assaulted a respawn point with a buffer lorg?"

"Several buffer lorgs, actually."

"Oh, it looks like you'll soon be the second strongest again."

"Thanks. I thought you’d be more surprised."

"I would be, but after understanding that even in your first evolution and at rank one, without even going through a minor breakthrough, you’re already a monster, I’m not that surprised."

"I see. By the way, a minor breakthrough is when you advance 25% in a stage of the path, right?"

"Oh? Did I not explain that?"

"Not that I recall, and I have pretty high intelligence now, so I’m not forgetful anymore."

"So you were forgetful before, huh?" she said in a teasing tone.

"I was. Now, can you answer?" I said bluntly.

"Sure, sure. You’re right, but you should also know that the stages are divided into lower, low, middle, high, and peak."

"I see, and I suppose each one is a minor breakthrough except lower, which is before 25%, and therefore before any minor breakthrough."

"Exactly, so you would be at stage one lower."

"That’s less technical than saying the percentage."

"Yes, and it also helps maintain some privacy. Not to mention that unless you’re very good at detecting energies, most people can only detect your rank and which stage of the rank you’re at."

"That’s if they’re not hiding it, I suppose."

"Yes, though there are ways to see through the concealment or camouflage of the path stage."

"By the way, what stage are you at?"

"I’m at rank one high."

"I see. I thought you’d be higher, considering you got your path very quickly and have a high-quality training method."

"Well, first of all, I don’t spend all my time training, and second, as you progress on the path, advancing becomes increasingly slower. This is especially true after each breakthrough, as advancing in stages is much more difficult than advancing after a stage breakthrough."

"I see, it seems that progress won’t be fast."

"Yes, you were particularly slow."

"I was?"

"Yes, because you have more than one path, and according to your future self, training more than one path at the same time is inefficient, so you had to train one path at a time."

"Just out of curiosity, what was your rank, and what was mine in the future?" I asked Emily.

"Mine was third high, while yours was first peak."

"First? Isn’t that quite slow?"

"Yes, but since you had eight paths, you were at least eight times slower. Not to mention that cultivation is three times slower than the other paths, so in reality, it would be ten times slower."

"I see, that makes sense. And what’s the highest rank someone has?"

"That would be rank five."

"Such a difference? Is that Leonard Ali Tyson’s rank?"

"No, remember that depending on the training method used, progress on the path is different, and this person used a fast progress path but didn’t gain many benefits."

"Right. So what rank was Leonard Ali Tyson?"

"He was stage four low."
