Chapter 69

I spent the first few hours in the bunker, ensuring everything was functioning correctly. It seems my preparation was a success, as everything is working perfectly. I even set up cameras outside the refuge to monitor for any Lorgs nearby. Everything seemed to be running smoothly, and there was no trace of any Lorgs.

After that, I decided to spend some time with my family, helping them relax a bit. I also explained more about the system, the Paths, the techniques, and the Lorgs.

"So, because of your talent, you're pretty hard to kill, huh?" my sister said after I shared some stories from the war zone.

"Basically, yes."

"And why can't I have a talent?" she asked.

"No idea. I only know that not everyone has one, even if you can have a Path and become strong."

"But I need money to buy training manuals, and from what you said, the only way to get it is by killing Lorgs, which isn't easy without a talent."

"Not really. I can buy you the manuals. I can also give you items to make it easier to kill them."

"... So this is what it feels like to be from a rich family," she said.

Then my mom added, "Still, I'd prefer it if you both didn't face the Loorgs."

"I can understand that, but I have to keep killing them. Besides, even if you don't actively go to the war zone to kill them, it's better to have a Path and be ready."

"Yes, Mom, just look at the current situation. It's too dangerous to be a normal person in times like these," my sister said, backing me up.

"But that's what the bunker is for," my mom replied.

"Even so, it's better to be prepared. You never know when an emergency might occur," I said.

"Exactly. Besides the benefits of having a Path, having one doesn't mean we have to go out and fight them," my sister added.

"Alright, I understand," my mom finally conceded.

"By the way, how about we take this time to get you some good training manuals?"

After that followed a detailed explanation of all the Paths. Since they have their own section of the store, they could look for a training manual they liked. While waiting, I started searching for the Gates closest to the bunker. When I go out, the first thing I'll do is destroy them.

Finding some about a kilometer away, it seems the bunker is fortunately far from the Gates, which is good. It also makes sense since I chose a sparsely populated area on the outskirts of the city. If the Gates appear in densely populated places, a remote and sparsely inhabited area is the safest.

Half an hour later, my mom had decided to follow the Saint Path and a method that, although it doesn't have any element, focuses on protection and healing. Quite reasonable, considering my mom's personality and a mother's desire to protect her children. In fact, that's the name of the method.

[Mother Saint's Aid Method 4200c]

Later, my sister also chose her Path, deciding to be a Psychic. For her training method, she chose a rather peculiar but extremely powerful element: gravity.

"Good choice," I told her.

"Thanks, I chose it because I prefer to think rather than move to do something," she responded.

"So you chose it out of laziness."

"Yes, honestly," she confirmed.

"You know telekinesis exists, right?"

"I thought about it initially, but gravity sounds much more powerful."

"It's also much more expensive."

[Gravitational Thought 6300c]

"So no?" she said, with a sad voice and a pleading look.

"Yes, I'll buy it," I said, resigned.

"Yay!"

After that, and telling them that the more energy they could put into the Path's core, the better, they went to practice. It's quite good considering that the sooner they become strong, the safer they will be.

After that, I spent the rest of the day observing the surroundings both with the cameras and using my detection techniques, until the next day without even sleeping and barely eating. I didn't need it much considering my stats and skills. Besides, I planned to eat when I went out to kill Loorgs. I'm sure there must be abandoned stores with food.

And so the next day arrived. Feeling there was no major danger near the bunker, I decided to go out.

---

Before leaving, I gathered the girls to give them some final instructions.

"Listen," I said firmly, "as soon as I leave, block the three bunker doors again. I don't want you to take any unnecessary risks while I'm out."

They looked at me with concern. My mom, always worried, was the first to speak.

"But why do you have to go?" she said in a pleading tone. "It's dangerous out there. We can stay here and wait until it's safe."

I shook my head, trying to appear resolute.

"No, I need to make sure the area is clear. Besides, killing Loorgs benefits us. With my abilities, I have a better chance of surviving."

My sister, always more composed, tried another tactic. "I understand, but something could happen while you're gone."

I sighed, knowing their intentions were good, but going out would be more of a benefit than a loss. "I appreciate it, but I've placed several camouflage and stealth devices around the bunker. Finding it is ridiculously difficult if you don't know where it is. Besides, I've been fighting the Loorgs for six months."

My mom, her voice filled with contained emotion, said, "We don't want to lose you. After what happened to your grandparents and your father, we're the only family left."

Her words hit me hard, and for a moment, I hesitated. But I knew I had to stay firm.

"I know. But that's precisely why I have to do this. If something happens to me, you'll still have the bunker and the resources here to survive. But if something happens to you, I don't know if I could go on."

They exchanged looks, visibly affected, but finally nodded, though reluctantly.

"Okay," my mom said quietly. "Just... please, be very careful."

I gave them a reassuring smile. "I promise. And I'll be back as soon as possible."

With that, I headed to the bunker exit, ready to face whatever was out there, knowing I had to be strong for them.
